Donald Cerrone stepped into the octagon in front of his hometown crowd in Denver, Colorado at “UFC on FOX 23” and hoped to further his win-streak. Jorge Masvidal stood opposite of “Cowboy” and wanted to turn some heads by walking in as the underdog, but leaving with his hands raised above his head.

Masvidal’s pawing jabs caught Cerrone off guard, but it didn’t wobble him. Cerrone landed the first significant shot of the fight in the form of a kick to the body of Masvidal, and followed it up by attacking the leg. Cerrone changed levels constantly at the start of the fight, keeping Masvidal guessing where he was going to strike next. Welts started forming on the leg of Masvidal in the third minute of the fight, and he walked gingerly on it for the rest of the round.

A spinning backfist from Masvidal slowed down the offense of Cerrone for the remainder of the round, but he still fired off leg and body kicks from a safe distance. Masvidal caught Cerrone off guard with a massive shot after stringing strikes along and eventually knocked Cerrone down RIGHT at the end of the round. Cerrone groggily got back to his corner and had a glazed look in his eyes.

Cerrone was clearly out of it and was allowed to continue the fight by the doctor in the second round, but he was dropped again in the second and the referee waved the fight off to save Cerrone.
