Another Top Female Says GDR Has A History Of Dodging Opponents, Just Like She’s Doing With Cyborg

Germaine de Randamie

Germaine de Randamie made history at “UFC 208” when she defeated Holly Holm in the main event to become the first-ever UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion. The weight-class has just been created and the roster for the division is non-existent, as they’re not even in the company’s official rankings.

Fighters from around the world have thrown their hats in the mix to become de Randamie’s next opponent, but it seems as if GDR has her sights set on Holly Holm for a rematch. Invicta FC Featherweight Champions Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and Megan Anderson both offered to square off with de Randamie, and she simply states that she doesn’t feel like fighting anybody but Holm. Whether it’s pressure from officials forcing her into a rematch due to the controversial strikes after the bell or not remains to be seen, but she apparently has a history of dodging fighters, Marloes Coenen claims.

Coenen sat down with Bloody Elbow‘s Eddie Mercado and told the story of how de Randamie avoided fighter her when she first made the transition into mixed martial arts:

“No because she was always a Thai Boxer in the Netherlands, and I was always an MMA fighter. A few years ago, she transferred to MMA. We wanted to train together, but my then coach didn’t want me to do it, because he wanted me to fight her first. He told me that her training center, or she didn’t want to fight me or something, and it never happened.”

Coenen will be stepping into the cage opposite of Julia Budd at Bellator 174 to decide the fate of the inaugural women’s featherweight championship. Who do you think will walk out with the gold strapped around their waist, and do you think Coenen will ever cross paths with GDR?
