New Champ Germaine de Randamie Says She’s Injured, Pushes Off Cyborg Fight

Following UFC featherweight champion Germain de Randamie’s victory over Holly Holm at UFC 208, making “The Iron Lady” the first women’s UFC featherweight champion in history, the champion admitted that she was going to have to take a little break after her victory. Addressing the crowd directly after her victory, Germaine said:

“I want to fight everybody. If Cris Cyborg is the one I have to fight, I’ll fight her. Right now, I really need surgery on my hand. I’m going to get surgery on my hand and let’s see after.”

Explaining what happened to her hand, Germaine noted:

“I tore a ligament in my hand, in my fight with Larissa Pacheco. So I need to go get that fixed first.”

Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino is the next logical opponent for Germaine, as many believe Cyborg was a large reason for the featherweight division’s inception in the UFC. Whether the champion’s surgery will sideline her long enough to cause another interim title to be added into the mix is yet to be determined.
