14-Year-Old Kickboxer Tragically Dies Following Title Fight — R.I.P.

Tragedy struck the kickboxing community this weekend when it was revealed that Scott Marsden had passed away after collapsing during a national championship bout. Marsden was just fourteen years old.

Marsden was taken to the hospital after collapsing during competition needing urgent medical attention on Saturday. The following post was shared on All Styles Kickboxing Club Facebook page:

“Unfortunately, (Saturday) night’s English title fight had to be stopped due to Scotty needing immediate medical attention. There was no way to foresee the fight ending in such a way as at no point were either ever in any overwhelming danger from each other.”

“Everyone is still in shock as there were simply no signs to suggest the fight needed to be stopped.”

“The referee stepped in to protect Scott as soon as he could, which meant Scott did not hit the canvas and was laid down and straight into recovery position.”

The tragic news had former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli speak out about the passing of Marsden:

Studied have shown that younger athletes are more susceptible to brain damage and concussions up to a certain point; Certain types of strikes to the head should not be permitted until the brain and body has matured into an adult stage. Do you think competition amongst teenagers should be limited?

We here at MMA Imports would like to express our condolences to the Marsden family.
