Bellator Loses 4 Fighters One Day Before Fight Night, Including Grove-Rhodes Headliner

Today, weight cutting seems to be cutting fighters out of their bouts. Two main card competitors for tonight’s Bellator 174 have missed weight, scraping two fights from the night’s event.

As first reported by MMA Junkie, Mike Rhodes and Joe Taimanglo have missed weight. Mike Rhodes was initially set to face Kendall Grove, as Joe Taimanglo was set to face Steve Garcia. All four fighters have now been scrapped from the event. In the aftermath of this two bout scrap, Fernando Gonzalez and Brandon Girtz have risen to the co-main event for tonight’s card.

This news is coming off of the heels of UFC lightweight No. 1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov’s recent drop from tomorrow night’s UFC 209 co-main event.

With so many fighters being pulled from competition in just a moment’s time, is weight cutting proving to be a rising issue in the sport? Or, is it coincidence?

Bellator 174 goes off tonight in Thackerville, Oklahoma with former Strikeforce bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen facing Julia Budd in the main event.
