Invicta Results: Jodie Esquibel Outworks DeAnna Bennett


Flyweights DeAnna Bennett and Jodie Esquibel carried on tonight’s Invicta FC 22 fight card with the fifth bout of the night.

The first round began with at methodical pace, with both fighters testing each other’s stand up.

Jodie Esquibel ended up in trouble, when Bennett managed to get her opponent to the ground. Bennett scored a tight arm bar, that over extended Esquibel’s arm. Esquibel toughened out the submission attempt, as Bennett ended the first round largely in control.

Bennett entered the second round fired up, as she was struck with an accidental illegal kick to the face during her previous submission attempt.

Both fighters kept things on the feet, peppering each other with strikes all the while. Bennett stalked Esquibel for much of the round, as the five minutes came to a close.

The final round mirrored much of the second, as both warriors methodically called their strikes. Avoiding close-in brawls, the fighters kept up with their footwork as they patiently chose their shots.

Esquibel began throwing nice combinations, as Bennett landed a few effective counters. In the final 30 seconds of the fight, both warriors began to pick up the pace. Tossing strikes for the final moments, the fight ultimately went the distance.
