UFC President Dana White Discusses What’s Next For Khabib Nurmagomedov

Last night’s UFC 209 was set to feature an epic co-main event. Tony Ferguson and undefeated No. 1 contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov were set to fight it out for the interim lightweight title. The bout very easily could have been a main event on its own. Well, for fight fans, something disastrous struck just shy of the event. “The Eagle” never landed his fight weight.

After not making it to weigh-ins, Nurmagomedov was sent to the hospital for weight management issues. UFC President Dana White is not terribly pleased.

In the UFC 209 post-fight press conference, White said

“He was devastated. He was as bad as anybody I have ever seen when a fight pulls out. So we’ll give him some time. To be honest with you, Khabib fought in New York in November and then here in this fight. Two back-to-back weight cuts like that. I don’t know if he can make the weight or if he needs to get a better plan, dietitian…something. He got within six pounds and was in really rough shape. He’s going to have to take some time to recover from this weight cut, and then I don’t know what to do.”

It would appear that things are not looking grand for the undefeated lightweight contender, though it would probably be unwise to count out “The Eagle” immediately.
