Vitor Belfort Confirms Plans For Retirement

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort faced his third consecutive defeat inside the octagon at last night’s UFC Fight Night 106 in Brazil.

With 39 professional fights spanning nearly two decades, “The Phenom” has now decided to hang up his gloves.

Belfort was rocked by Kelvin Gastelum at last night’s event, losing to the fighter via first round TKO.

In the post-fight press conference, Belfort explained what direction he is considering after the first round TKO loss.

“We have to reinvent ourselves, and it won’t be the first, it won’t be the last. I mean, I hope it is the last, because in July, I want to do the last fight in my contract. I think it’s my time to finish my chapter in this as a professional fighter.” Belfort said.

After confirming that his next fight will be his last, Belfort said “It will be (last fight) or if they create an organization just for the legends then I can fight a little bit more, but to train for a five-round fight is very sacrificing for my body.”

Hoping for his final bout to be in Brazil, Belfort said he has no interest in fighting a fellow Brazilian in his final fight. However, Belfort called out no specific fighters.
