BJJ Teen Competes Against Man With 200 Pound Advantage

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is, in many ways, an art designed for combating goliaths. The martial art attempts to nullify the advantage an opponent may usually receive from their size alone. A smaller competitor can, with cunning technique, trump any opponent of larger size.

Last year, teenager Michael Arrieta released a video on YouTube. The 155 pound 17-year-old faced off against a much larger opponent at 340 pounds. The two faced off within a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In the video, the two can be seen going at it. The larger opponent took his foe to the ground, before being pulled into the guard of the teenager. After being re-positioned in the center of the mat, a scramble begun.

As the larger man struggled for side control, Michael Arrieta kept his cool and set up a swift armbar. Executing on the submission, Arrieta snagged a tap for the win.
