Khabib Breaks Down MMA’s Risk In Leaving Boxing vs. MMA Bout Up To McGregor

“The Eagle” thinks the most speculated fight in recent weeks may be bad for business.

UFC lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov spent some time in Moscow holding open workouts yesterday.

During the event, Nurmagomedov offered up his thoughts on the epic Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. match-up.

As transcribed by Bloody Elbow, “The Eagle” explained in an interview with a Russian news outlet that he is looking at the event from two angles.

“As a fan, it is a very interesting fight. I understand perfectly why it is carried out. It is guaranteed to bring the organizers a lot of money. Such an event the world of martial arts is not yet known.”

However, “The Eagle” thinks it may not be great for MMA.

“But in truth, for MMA it is a very dangerous fight. We’re close to boxing in terms of popularity ratings. And if the most-promoted fighter the UFC such as McGregor is defeated by a 40-year-old boxer, it would be a blow to the reputation of MMA. But the money apparently outweighs any risks.”

McGregor and Mayweather are still working out the details of their cross-promotional bout, leaving no official announcement to date.
