Silva Reacts To Weidman’s Recent Fate, Says His Luck Has Finally Ran Out

Chris Weidman shocked the world at “UFC 162” in 2013 when he sent Anderson Silva crashing to the mat, forcing his head to bounce off the canvas after knocking him out cold. Weidman towered over an unconscious Silva as the new middleweight champion, a championship that was held by Silva for years at that point.

The rematch was a bit more competitive but ended in a serious injury when Silva’s leg snapped, giving Weidman the technical knockout victory. After successful championship defenses against Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort, Weidman lost the title and has since gone on a two-fight losing skid.

Most recently, Weidman stepped into the octagon to work his way back up the middleweight rankings but suffered defeat at the hands of Gegard Mousasi in a decision that was marred with controversy. The referee had halted the action due to the fact that he believed Weidman got struck with an illegal knee, but it was later revealed that the knee was legal.

Previous to knowing the knee was illegal, Weidman claimed he did not know what day of the week it was. The doctor made the decision right there to wave off the fight, giving Mousasi the technical knockout win. Silva opened up about Weidman’s streak of bad luck, telling the media that his luck has run out, telling MMA Junkie:

“But these are things that happen. Weidman is a very lucky guy, and this time he wasn’t lucky. He’s very lucky, but his luck ran out. He had some luck for a while, and now it’s over. A lot of luck. A lot of luck.”
