After Decades Of Singlets, High School Wrestling Adopts A New Uniform

After decades of high school wrestlers wearing only singlets to compete, high school wrestlers will now have a second option for what they wear while competing.

Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, wrestlers will now be able to wear special compression shorts designed for wrestling and a form-fitted compression shirt while wrestling.

The new rule change was made by the National Federation of State High School Association in April.

The new alternate uniform does not allow for the compression shorts to reach below the knee or for the compression shirt to reach below the elbow. High school wrestlers will also have the option to wear the compression shirt underneath their singlet.

The new alternate uniform was approved with hopes of it increasing the amount of boys and girls competing in the sport.
