Vitor Belfort Makes It Official, Announces His Retirement

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort’s career in mixed martial arts competition will soon be coming to a close. However, “The Phenom” still has one fight left in him.

Vitor Belfort has discussed making his next fight the last of his career, as the former champion has had a long and storied history with the sport. Now, Belfort has gone to Instagram to let his fans know that his next fight will, in fact, be his final one.

Before he retires, Belfort will be fighting in his home turf of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He will be fighting at UFC 212 on June 3. While Belfort’s opponent has not yet been officially announced, it has been reported that the former champion may be facing Nate Marquardt.

“I started my UFC journey 20 years ago, at UFC 12 and exactly 200 events after at June third, I will be making my last appearance for the organization at my hometown, Rio de Janeiro. I am expecting you at the arena so I can say thank you in person to you all that have been with me along this way. Always together!!” Belfort said, over Instagram.
