New York Commission Takes Action Against D.C.’s Towel Trick At Today’s Weigh-Ins — Watch!

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has learned from their past mistakes and took today’s weigh-ins very seriously.

On Friday, all the fighters competing at Bellator 180 and Bellator: NYC on Saturday weighed-in for their upcoming fights.

Whenever a fighter needed to bring in a towel in order to make weight, the commission kept a close eye on the fighter and made sure no tricks were played.

In April, the NYSAC received a lot of criticism after allowing UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier to hold onto the towel while weighing in. Cormier grabbing the towel likely took a few pounds off of the champion’s weight.

Since that incident, the NYSAC made rules making sure no fighters were able to touch anything except the scale while being weighed.

In the video below, you can watch the NYSAC make a fighter’s cornerman leave the area while the towel is being used.

Bellator 180 and Bellator: NYC take place June 24 at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City.
