Tragedy Strikes Virginia, Gunman Opens Fire On Government Officials

While practicing on a baseball field in Virgina, Republican members of the congressional baseball team were victims of a lone gunman who attacked the politician.

The gunman managed to hit five people during his attack. Among those hurt were Steve Scalise, the majority whip of the House of Representatives.

When the gunman unleashed fire, two of Scalise’s protective police detail returned fire. Both police officers were also wounded.

James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, IL, has been reported as the gunman. He was wounded during the shootout and brought into police custody.

Representatives Mike Bishop and Zachary Barth were also wounded during the shootout, which took place about seven miles away from the white house.

Fortunatley, nobody was killed during the incident.

“He was hunting us at that point,” Bishop, Republican of Michigan, told the New York Times. “There was so much gunfire, you couldn’t get up and run. Pop, pop, pop, pop — it’s a sound I’ll never forget.”
