Association of Boxing Commissions Adopt Instant Replays For Mixed Martial Arts Officials

The Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) has approved new recommendations to the unified rules of mixed martial arts.

This week, it was revealed the ABC had approved four new weight classes to the sport. The commission approved 165, 175, 195, and 225-pound weight classes.

The ABC also approved new rules regarding referees using instant replays during fights.

According to MMAjunkie, this is the new recommendation made by the ABC.

“More strict parameters for using instant replay in MMA. It may not be used for smaller shows that aren’t being filmed, and referees may only use it when a “fight-ending sequence” may have been caused by an intentional or unintentional foul.”

The new instant replay rule would only be used in major MMA promotions, whose fights are being filmed. Instant replay can also only be used in situations where the fight was stopped.

Sean Wheelock, the ABC rules committee chair, told MMAjunkie that the new rules could go into effect in the very near future because they do not require any laws or statutes to be changed.
