Gastelum: ‘I needed 30 more seconds to finish Weidman’

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted another big event over the weekend. UFC on FOX 25 made the UFC debut for Long Island, New York Saturday night. In the night’s main event, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman faced off against Kelvin Gastelum.

Chris Weidman pulled himself out of a three fight losing streak on Saturday night with a big win over Kelvin Gastelum. The former champion earned a submission victory in the third round of the match. However, Gastelum believes he may have been able to defeat the former champion in the first round, had he been given more time.

In the post-fight press conference, as transcribed by Bloody Elbow, Gastelum explained “At least 30 seconds. I wanted 30 more seconds, and I could’ve finished the fight. But it’s OK. These things happen.”
