Renzo Gracie Gets Another Opponent For ADCC, Following Matt Hughes’ Tragic Accident

Renzo Gracie still plans to compete at ADCC’s upcoming event in Finland.

In September, Gracie was scheduled to compete against UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes. However, Hughes suffered a tragic accident last month.

While driving in a truck, Hughes was struck by a moving train. Since the accident, Hughes has been recovering at a hospital in his home state of Illinois.

On Thursday, ADCC announced that Sanae Kikuta will replace Hughes and face Gracie at ADCC 2017, which takes place Sept. 22-24.

Gracie and Kikuta once fought in an MMA fight back in 2002 at the second ever PRIDE event. Gracie won the fight with a guillotine choke in the first minute of the sixth round.

ADCC 2017 will also feature a grappling match featuring two recognizable names in the world of MMA. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir will compete in a grappling match against former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen.
