UFC Results: Elkins Keep Things Ugly, Wins Tonight’s Co-Main Event Against Bermudez

The UFC returned to New York on Saturday for a UFC on FOX event. This was the first UFC event to be held on Long Island.

In the co-main event, two elite featherweight fighters were given the opportunity to prove they belong in the title picture when New York’s own Dennis Bermudez fought Darren Elkins.

Bermudez was the first to land in the fight, but Elkins responded with shots of his own. Bermudez threw a kick but slipped. This allowed Elkins to take his back. Elkins landed a takedown, but Bermudez got right back up. Each time Elkins got the fight down, Bermudez fought his way up. Elkins eventually got Bermudez to the ground and secured the position. Elkins took his opponent’s back. In the final minute, Bermudez fought his way to his feet. Elkins landed a massive takedown but Bermudez once again got to his feet in the final seconds of the round.

Bermudez went for a takedown early in the second round, but Elkins stopped it. Both fighters then traded punches in the center of the cage. Elkins engaged a clinch and got the fight briefly against the fence. Bermudez then began to have more success landing his combinations. Bermudez then landed a takedown against the cage. Elkins fought his way back to his feet, but Bermudez kept him against the fence. Elkins used a guillotine attempt to break free. In the final seconds, Elkins landed another takedown. Bermudez got to his feet and both fighters scrambled to finish the round.

Both fighters came out swinging to start the final round. Bermudez got the fight against the cage and landed shots to the body before Elkins got free. Later on, both fighters traded dominant position against the fence. Elkins began to have more success landing clean shots. The fight ended with both fighters landing strong shots.
