Another Boxing Champ Declines Team McGregor’s Offer To Come Spar Conor McGregor

Former boxing champion Paul Malignaggi went separate ways from Conor McGregor after a set of sparring photos were leaked. Now, the UFC lightweight champion is short a sparring partner. It would appear that measures were taken to get another former boxing champion on board for McGregor’s training. However, things do not seem to have worked out.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, former IBF champion Steve Forbes revealed that he was offered a chance to spar with Conor McGregor.

As transcribed by Bloody Elbow, Forbes said “I got a call to spar with them too. I said no.”

The former champion elaborated that Paulie’s departure played some part in his decision. “We didn’t even get to (talking about money). It’s just the way how it was handled with Paulie. Plus, I haven’t been sparring or training really like that.” He said.

Speaking on the controversy behind Paul Malignaggi’s departure and his sparring with Conor McGregor, Forbes stated “Yeah, I know. They’d make me look bad because I’m not in condition. No way! People were like ‘oh you would be able to handle that,’ but I haven’t been sparring.”
