Legal Details Emerge And D.C. Can Sue Jon Jones For Latest Failed Drug Test … And He Should

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones may be facing a lot of penalties after failing his last drug test.

On Tuesday, news broke of Jones testing positive for a banned substance in an in-competition test given to him by the U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The sample that Jones gave that tested positive was taken one day before his fight with Daniel Cormier.

As a result of his failed drug test, Jones can receive penalties from the UFC, USADA, the state of California, and Cormier. A report by Combat Sports Law shows all the penalties Jones may face.

If it is proven Jones indeed knowingly took a steroid before his fight at UFC 214, Cormier can file a civil lawsuit alleging battery against Jones.

When it comes to the UFC, they can strip him of his UFC title, fine him $500,000, and make him forfeit his purse for his fight against Cormier.

USADA can suspend Jones for up to four years since he failed another drug test in July 2016, which resulted in a one-year suspension.

Lastly, the state of California can give Jones their own suspension. They can also overturn his victory against Cormier and fine him 40 percent of his purse.
