Having Lost To Conor Before, Poirier Finds Himself And A New Respect For “The Notorious”

UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier has a newfound respect for UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

Back in 2014, Poirier and McGregor had a bitter rivalry leading up to their fight at UFC 178. On that night, McGregor defeated Poirier by TKO.

Recently, Poirier sent out a couple of tweets directed at McGregor. Poirier says he now understands fighting more now than he did back in 2014, and congratulated McGregor on all of his success.

“I used to have nothing but animosity towards you. Who I am now I understand myself and fighting so much more,” Poirier said to McGregor.

“You manifested it all and executed. Congratulations on everything.”

Since that fight, McGregor has gone on to win both the UFC featherweight and lightweight championships. He is currently preparing to fight in the biggest fight of his career.

On Aug. 26, McGregor will make his professional boxing debut when he fights Floyd “Money” Mayweather at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Poirier is expected to fight former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis in the main event of a UFC Fight Night on Nov. 11 in Norfolk, Virginia.
