On This Day In History Jon Jones Made His UFC Debut … After Only 9 Months Of Training Martial Arts

Today marks the nine-year anniversary of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones’ UFC debut.

At UFC 87, Jones fought André Gusmão in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jones won the fight by unanimous decision.

From his first fight, UFC fans could tell Jones was something special. His unique and unorthodox striking was something that had rarely even been seen inside the Octagon.

Jones also made his UFC debut after just training in the sport for nine months. During that nine-month period, Jones had earned an undefeated 6-0 MMA record.

Today, Jones is considered to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. During his UFC tenure, Jones has earned an overall MMA record of 23-1 with his only loss coming by disqualification.

Jones holds the UFC record for the most title defenses in light heavyweight history with eight and has won 11 title fights in the UFC in total.
