UFC Officials Confirm That Khabib Turned Down Another Title Fight Opportunity

Undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This is almost starting to be a running joke. Top UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov is widely regarded as the UFC’s best lightweight contender.

Undefeated in his career as a professional fighter, Khabib has a problem with activity, often injured or sick and pulling out of fights. And when he’s not pulling out of major UFC events, he’s on religious Holiday or just turning down fights offered.

It’s hard to make sense of Khabib’s decision making process, and his repeated stints of inactivity have now made him irrelevant in the title picture, despite his dominance and potential.

In a new statement, UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby confirmed that he once again tried to give Khabib a title shot, but he refused.

Check it out:

“Just to clear things up, a fight was offered to Nurmagomedov on Nov. 4th, and at that point we were trying to put cards together towards the end of the year. I was informed that he could not make that date and he probably wouldn’t be able to fight until at least December. And so, that left Tony without a dance partner and it’s not just about one guy, it’s about two guys.” the UFC matchmaker revealed about Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“So we backed Tony up and Kevin Lee was there and I mean look at his resume as of late. He’s a phenomenal fighter, he’s doing fantastic. Right now, I think he’s the hottest thing in the division.”
