UFC’s Volkan Oezdemir Challenges Alexander Gustafsson to a ‘King Of Europe’ Fight

UFC contender Volkan Oezdemir wants to fight fellow European fighter, and former UFC title challenger, Alexander Gustafsson.

During a fan Q&A in Rotterdam, Oezdemir said he would be willing to fight Gustafsson in order to see who the true number one contender is in the UFC light heavyweight division.

“I think the number one spot is a clever choice,” Oezdemir said. “Being up here, six months ago, I wasn’t even ranked. Now the number one spot is open to me because of everything that has happened in the division and the champion, and the situation with him. We will see.

“Maybe the best way to do it is the king of Europe fight, like a European championship. Then we can fight for the belt, the world championship.”

Gustafsson and Oezdemir are among the top contenders at 205 pounds. Gustafsson is ranked No. 2 in the official UFC rankings, while Oezdemir is ranked No. 3.

Oezdemir is coming off an impressive knockout win over Jimi Manuwa in July. In Gustafsson’s last fight, he knocked out former title challenger Glover Teixeira.
