Breaking: USADA Official Says There’s A Chance Jon Jones Won’t Serve A Suspension … At All

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jon Jones might just get out another jam.

According to the head of USADA, all Jones has to do is prove that the latest drug he failed for was taken by accident, due to some kind of tainted supplement.

It’s a big revelation in the case of Jon Jones who seemingly can’t get his rhythm going in the right direction.

The USADA head first explained the potential punishment if Jones is found guilty stating, “He’s potentially looking at a second sanction, which would basically double your penalties. The substance that he tested positive for was a metabolite of an anabolic steroid.

But then he went on to state that he personally feels that due to the nature of the substance, that Jon Jones got this thing in his system by accident. The USADA rep went as far to say that if Jon can prove as much, he might face no suspension at all.

Here’s the rest of his statement:

“That was a substance where a few years ago would only be detectable for a few days within the system. Now laboratories have found longtime metabolites tests, where metabolites can be detected four maybe up to six months after use. However, Jon [Jones] submitted clean tests on July 6 and July 7 of 2017. His positive test was from July 29. A simply Google search would show you that this substance’s detection window has now moved out from four to six months. So, it doesn’t make a lot of sense that anybody with any level of sophistication would choose to use this drug. I had to have been used after July 7, or entered his system after July 7. It would not make sense to go to this drug, because of the multi-month detection window.

“So, that would leave me to believe that it was probably from non-purposeful ingestion.”

“So where we are at is Jon’s team is working hard. We are assisting them wherever we can to try to determine how this substance got into his system.”

When asked if there is a chance that Jon Jones will be released without a suspension, he responded that it would be best case scenario but could be possible.

“All things are still on the table. Best case scenario, if he shows that it came from something that was not high risk.”
