Ferguson won the UFC interim lightweight title at UFC 216 when he finished off an exhausted Kevin Lee in the third round. Immediately following the fight Ferguson put McGregor on blast, setting up a potential title unification fight with McGregor.
“Where you at McNuggets, ya f**king piece of s**t,” Ferguson said to the camera after his UFC 216 win. “I’m gonna kick your ass. You better come and f**king defend that belt. Defend or vacate, motherf**ker.”
The new interim lightweight champion continued his tirade against McGregor on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” saying he believes he simply better than the Irishman.
“I really want to kick this dude’s ass because I believe that my skills are better. I guarantee you that I’d be a better champ and I would defend the belt. He defends the belt zero times. Zero times. He won it, he talked his way into this sh*t, and my management knows exactly where I stand with this, and I don’t stand for that kind of sh*t. I’m here right now putting numbers behind it, the same way that I made them take me into The Ultimate Fighter.”
However, Cormier disagrees and thinks Ferguson will get hit too easily against McGregor, especially with the way he leaves his chin exposed.
“So I think he’s really good. I think his cardio and his pace are fantastic.” UFC champ Daniel Cormier said on the podcast. “I believe he makes some mistakes that would really cost him against Conor. Did you see how high he’s hanging his chin up when he’s throwing punches? You do that against McGregor and you’re getting sniped, you’re getting sniped!”
