That Time A BJJ World Champion Made Alistair Overeem Tap To Strikes

Alistair Overeem has put on a storied career as a Dutch kickboxer. A former K-1 World Grand Prix, DREAM and Strikeforce champion, Overeem has put on a stunning performance in both the kickboxing and mixed martial arts worlds. That being said, the fighter had one particularly bad day back in 2006.

The heavyweight faced off against former BJJ champion and overall grappling phenom Ricardo Arona at “Pride FC: Final Conflict Absolute.” Within the first round, Arona forced his opponent to submit to his strikes from the ground.

The epic beat down can be seen in the video below:

Now Alistair Overeem is looking to keep his two fight winning streak alive, as he takes on Francis Ngannou at UFC 218. The two heavyweights will throw down on Dec. 2 inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The event will be aired live on pay-per-view.
