UFC Results: Welterweights Kick Off Tonight’s FS1 Fight Card with a War

Fight fans are pouring into the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil for tonight’s UFC Fight Night 119. The night’s main event will see Derek Brunson welcome former champion Lyoto Machida back into the octagon.

In the first prelim of the night on FS2, UFC welterweights Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Max Griffin went toe-to-toe.

Griffin immediately applied the pressure to his opponent in the first round. Throwing with wild power, Griffin managed to land a few significant blows on dos Santos early in the fight.

Dos Santos began picking Griffin apart with damaging counters and well placed jabs. Still, Griffin continued to apply pressure. Griffin eventually earned a takedown over his opponent, but was unable to capitalize on the position.

Back on his feet, dos Santos rocked Griffin with a devastating strike. Griffin wobbled on his feet, as dos Santos began unleashing a flurry of blows. In the end, Griffin was saved by the bell.

Griffin appeared largely recovered in the opening of the second round, landing a few significant strikes on his opponent to let dos Santos know that he is still in the fight.

Griffin dropped dos Santos with a hook, but his opponent quickly sprang back to his feet. The two fighters kept it on the feet, each surviving the second round.

The final round opened with a short exchange, before the two fighters slowed the pace. Dos Santos pelted his opponent with an overhand right that stunned Griffin, pressuring him to the fence. Dos Santos continued to apply the pressure, as he appeared to be the fresher of the two fighters.

Griffin could be seen breathing heavily after the intense two rounds. Still, the fighter held his own until the sound of the final bell.
