Werdum Talks: ‘I wanted to snap Tony Ferguson’s head’

UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum and lightweight contender Tony Ferguson had a scuffle at a recent UFC 216 media lunch. After cursing at each other in raised voices and approaching each other with physical intensity, the two fighters were eventually separated. However Fabricio Werdum has come forward to reveal that things were almost much worse.

In an interview with MMA Fighting after the incident, insinuating that he would hold nothing back, Werdum explained that he nearly resorted to “Pride rules.”

Here is what Fabricio Werdum had to say:

“I know the guy. He’s not a friend, but I know the guy. He came in with all this f*cking negative energy, I went to shake his hands and he wasn’t pleasant. That’s okay, maybe he’s focused, he’s hungry, on a diet, but that’s his problem, so I stayed cool. When I went to talk to another reporter he tells me to shut up? What is this? Are you crazy? I didn’t beat him up there because something could happen and I could lose my fight. I’d break everything there. That’s why I didn’t do anything, especially in consideration to the UFC and Chris, who was coordinating everything there. F*ck, man. How can this guy come and tell me to shut up?”

“I just don’t punch him because I know he’s got a fight coming up and Chris is a very nice guy with me all the time,” Werdum said afterward during the lunch. “I don’t want to break everything. I almost, maybe just like one second, I snap his head — 100 percent. Like PRIDE rules.”
