Collier Beats Out Fortuna With a Decision in Norfolk

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in Norfolk, Virginia today for UFC Fight Night 120. The exciting night of fights will see Anthony Pettis and Dustin Poirier go toe-to-toe in the night’s main event. In the second fight from the night, light heavyweights Jake Collier and Marcel Fortuna went face-to-face.

Collier got knocked off his balance earlier in the first round, though it appeared to be more of a slip than from a powerful strike on Fortuna’s part. Fortuna began to get comfortable on his feet, as the fighter put together combinations over Collier.

Fortuna managed to get the back of his opponent and walk him to the fence, but Collier was able to keep himself from going to the ground. Making his way back off the fence, Collier managed to land a strong left hook on Fortuna.

Collier starting teeing off on his opponent, but Fortuna managed to survive the onslaught. The fighter then landed a few effective counter punches before the end of the first round.

The second round opened with Fortuna putting on the pressure, eventually getting the back of Collier yet again. However, Collier made his way out of the sticky situation and back to the center of the octagon.

Collier continued to try to land a spinning body kick, but failed to damage his opponent with a significant hit.

With a minute and a half left in the second round, both fighters appeared to be a little gassed but continued to shoot off a series of strikes. Fortuna managed to finally get his opponent to the ground, ultimately earning the full mount position. Still, Fortuna was unable to get anything significant accomplished from the position, as Collier transitioned his way to a dominant position over Fortuna.

The third round kicked off with Collier seemingly having gotten a second wind. The fighter opened things up with a head kick over Fortuna. Collier continued to show off his high paced work rate, as he pummeled Fortuna with more strikes.

Fortuna brought his opponent to the ground, but Collier immediately reversed to a dominant position. Letting the fighter back to his feet, the two MMA warriors went back toe-to-toe with some striking.

Fortuna stunned his opponent with a vicious right hand with two minutes left in the round, but Collier quickly recovered and began walking Fortuna down once again.

The round ended with Collier failing to lock in a takedown over the fighter.
