Cauliflower ear is most common in martial arts and certain sports, such as wrestling and Rugby. While the condition is irreversible and damming to the ear, in mixed martial arts, it is considered to some as a badge of honor won by years of training and tough competition. However, cauliflower ear proved to be a gruesome experience for everyone present at this local mixed martial arts event.
So what is cauliflower ear? The condition is caused by blood clotting in the external portion of the ear, often caused by repeated irritation and blunt force. It would appear that perhaps far too much force made its way to this fighters ear.
In the video above, two MMA warriors can be seen throwing down. One fighter lands a tough shot to the head of his opponent, causing an unexpected spray of blood to explode over the unsuspecting crowd and inside the cage. The fight continued, as the competitor pummeled his opponent into the canvas. The referee can be seen rushing to the scene as the video of the match up reaches its end.
