Max Holloway Named Rolling Stone’s Fighter Of The Year, 2017

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has put on a dominant performance in the year of 2017. “Blessed” has only stepped inside the octagon twice this year, but stunned the world with each of his performances under the UFC banner.

Holloway first faced off against featherweight legend Jose Aldo at UFC 212 earlier this year. Aldo was the reigning champion, as Holloway was looking to unify his interim title with a victory over “Scarface.” Holloway put on an impressive performance over his opponent, earning a TKO victory over Aldo in the third round.

The newly crowned champion was then set to face off against Frankie Edgar at UFC 218. However, Edgar was pulled from the event due to an injury. On just weeks notice, Aldo stepped up to face off for the featherweight title once again.

This time around, the result was much of the same. Holloway put on a dominant performance over his opponent and earned another third round TKO finish over “Scarface.” Now the Rolling Stone has decided to name the fighter has their “Fighter of the Year.”

In their feature story on Holloway, the Rolling Stone explained:

“Max Holloway’s year consisted of just two fights, both of which came against the same opponent. However, it’s who that opponent was and how the UFC Featherweight champion handled himself in those contests which makes him our ‘Fighter of the Year’ for 2017.”
