Alistair Overeem Releases A Statement On Nasty Knockout Loss To Ngannou, Remains Optimistic And Classy

Fight fans inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, for last night’s UFC 218 event, were treated to a heavyweight clash of epic proportion. This Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) co-headliner between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou did not disappoint., and it was Overeem that was on the receiving end of one of the nastiest one-punch knockouts in heavyweight history. Now he shares his reaction to the loss with his legion of fans around the world, and he remains all class.

In the main event of the night, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway repeated history against Jose Aldo with a third round TKO stoppage of the former champion. But, before that went down it was UFC heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou that fought in the co-main event.

Francis Ngannou was recently recorded as the hardest puncher in the world at the UFC performance institute, and anyone who doubted those test results should be second guessing their thoughts after what we all witnessed in the cage on Saturday night.

The heavyweight fight, which has earned Ngannou a UFC heavyweight title shot against Stipe Miocic, was quick, brutal, and ended without doubt, thanks to an Ngannou uppercut in the first round that put Overeem out, and stiff, for several minutes inside the cage.

After the dust had settled, the former Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 Grand Prix champion in Overeem took to his social media, and released the following statement.

Check it out:

No damage and all healthy thankfully.. unfortunately lost today. Props to @francis_ngannou, I got hit with a uppercut from he**, one of his specialities which we new were very dangerous. Some chill time now before back to the drawing-board
