Cain Velasquez Breaks His Silence on Teammate D.C. Moving Up For Heavyweight Title Fight

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has offered a response to fellow AKA member Daniel Cormier getting a shot at the heavyweight title.

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has locked in a super fight against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. For the fight, Cormier will move up to his native heavyweight class to challenge Miocic for his title.

The fight goes down July 7 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. for International fight week. It will be featured in the live pay-per-view event of UFC 226.

However, Cormier’s teammate Cain Velasquez is a former heavyweight champion. The former title holder has been out for some time, as Velasquez has been recovering from an injury.

When talks of the heavyweight super fight began to spread, Cormier addressed the issues. The UFC light heavyweight champion explained that he would not want to impede on teammate Cain Velasquez’s impending heavyweight return.

With that in mind, Cormier is now scheduled to fight for the heavyweight title. Responding to the recent news, Velasquez took to social media.

Over Twitter, Velasquez stated:

“Like always, I’m gonna be in the gym everyday to help my brother @dc_mma become the next heavyweight champ at #UFC226. Once he wins, things could get interesting. #AndNew #WeAreAKA #GonnaGetMyBeltBack”
