UFC Ringside Commentators Try To Stop Fight Themselves, Save Fighter From Bad Referee

Mixed martial arts is an enthralling sport. Fight fans pour into arenas around the world to watch competitors throw down, with perhaps no one getting a better view of the action than the cage side commentators. Sometimes color commentators can even see things going on in the fight not immediately apparent to those in the crowd. In this case, UFC ringside commentators Brian Stann and Jon Anik did what they could to stop a fight themselves after the night’s referee failed to do so.

Stann and Anik were cage side at UFC on FOX 24 when welterweight Zak Cummings faced off against Nathan Coy for fight fans worldwide. Cummings earned a submission victory over his opponent in the first round, putting a quick end to Coy. However, the fight could have potentially been stopped sooner.

In the video above, Stann and Anik can be seen acknowledging that Coy had slipped out of consciousness within the grasp of Cummings’ guillotine choke.

The referee was unaware of the fact at the time, causing the commentators to scream at the referee to call an end to the contest. The referee eventually acknowledged the situation and tore Cummings off of his defeated opponent.
