UFC Veteran Cheick Kongo Announced As Bellator Tournament Alternate

In an odd sort of way, it’s a good thing for UFC heavyweight veteran Cheick Kongo that Rampage Jackson lost his Bellator heavyweight tournament slot, because he’s been named as an alternate, and the two are known Best Friends For Life.

This uncomplicates the former UFC star’s entrance into the Bellator tournament as an alternate.

While the field has been set for over a month for the tournament that included Rampage Jackson, Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir, Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Mitrione, King Mo, Roy “Big Country” Nelson and King Mo, it’s not a complete tournament without alternates.

Over the weekend the Bellator MMA promotions decided on those alternates, in the event one of the tournament participants get injured or are deemed unable to continue.

The alternates the Bellator MMA promotion selected are as mentioned, Cheick Kongo and additionally Javy Ayala.

Ayala welcomed Roy Nelson to Bellator in a losing effort, and Cheick Kongo is currently riding a five fight win streak.
