Chris Weidman Wants Next Crack At Robert Whittaker, States His Case For Title Shot

UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero went to war with former champion Luke Rockhold over the weekend. The two mixed martial arts phenoms headlined UFC 221 on Saturday night, Feb. 10, in Perth, Western Australia.

Romero ultimately earned a knockout finish over the former title holder in the third round. UFC President Dana White would later claim that Romero’s knockout performance has earned the fighter a shot at the UFC middleweight title.

With that in mind, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman believes he deserves a title shot of his own. Taking to Twitter, the former title holder offered his thoughts on why he may deserve a title shot against reigning champion Robert Whittaker.

“Hang on…Am I the only one who is in the top 5 who hasn’t fought Whitaker, coming off a win, most title defenses, makes weight and doesn’t fail drug tests?”

Following Romero’s big win, Weidman doubled down on his opinion that he deserves a title shot. “As far as who should fight Whittaker, I don’t know. I think I should.” The former UFC middleweight champion stated.
