Despite Being In His Prime, Mike Tyson Admits He Would Have Lost In UFC 1 Tournament

Mike Tyson is a pugilist legend. The heavyweight knockout artist has gone down as one of history’s most dominant and vicious heavyweight boxing champions. With that in mind, Tyson does not believe he would have stood much of a chance at the UFC’s first official tournament.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was brought into a new era when Royce Gracie shocked the world back in 1993. Mike Tyson was battling world class boxers in his prime in 1990, leading some fight fans to think what would have happened if Tyson ever decided to try his hands in the octagon way back when.

Speaking to on UFC Tonight, Mike Tyson offered his thoughts on the matter.

“Well, in ’93 I was in prison, so we would not have had a fight, but there’s no way I could have won that fight. I had no idea what was going on with that kind of fight and would have been taken by surprise. He should have trained in that specific fighting art before (to face Gracie). That is a particular art.

“You can not enter (to the cage) only with your hand and without having a great game of floor. You also need very good Struggle to be successful, and besides you will not be exciting. You must have both games (standing and floor fighting). You have to know how to fight and how to box. That’s the truth.”
