Undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been hinting to a possible run in the UFC. Now Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions has come forward with a few words on the matter.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. pulled himself out of retirement in 2017 to face off inside the squared circle one last time. For the match up, “Money” Mayweather went toe-to-toe with UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
Mayweather ultimately earned a TKO victory over “Notorious,” with both competitors walking away with massive paydays from their highly anticipated pay-per-view event. While Mayweather slipped back into retirement directly after the fight, the undefeated pugilist has been offering hints to a possible run inside the octagon.
Mayweather Promotion’s Leonard Ellerbe recently offered his thoughts on Mayweather’s hints to a run in the UFC. Speaking to Fight Hype, Ellerbe explained:
“When I saw it, I just smiled like I always do. Floyd is a genius. I’ll leave it at that. He knows what he’s doing.”
Ellerbe then revealed that he has not been in talks with UFC President Dana White concerning a rematch between Mayweather and McGregor inside the octagon.
“No, we’ve had some conversations, but nah.”
Ellerbe also claimed that Mayweather is not currently training for a run inside the octagon. “Not that I’m aware of.”
