On Less Than Two Weeks Notice, UFC 222 Loses High Profile Fight

It would appear that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will not be able to lock in Aguilar vs. Souza for one of the promotion’s upcoming fight cards. UFC 222 will have to find another opponent for Jessica Aguilar.

Former Invicta FC strawweight champion Livinha Souza was initially set to face off against Jessica Aguilar at UFC Fight Night 126. However, Souza suffered a hand injury that forced the UFC to move their fight to a later date.

Jessica Aguilar was the reigning WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion when she elected to join the roster of the UFC, entering the promotion with a stunning professional record of 19-4. Livinha Souza has only a single loss to her name, with her record totaling 11-1 as a former Invicta FC strawweight champion.

With the two fighters being former title holders and having already been training to face off inside the octagon for UFC Fight Night 126, fight fans have been waiting to see these two world class warriors go toe-to-toe in a high profile battle for division dominance.

The two mixed martial arts warriors were being targeted to face off at UFC 222. However, as reported by MMA Fighting, Souza’s hand will not be healed in time for the match up. As a result, the mixed martial arts promotion is currently looking for a new opponent for Aguilar.

UFC 222 goes down March 3 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The event will be featured live on pay-per-view.
