D.C. Gives His Entire Salary Away To Coaching Staff

It would appear that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been named the head coach of a high school near his home in Northern California. Rather than make a profit from the position, the fighter has decided to give his stipend to all of his assistant coaches.

As reported by MMA Fighting, Daniel Cormier has been named the head coach of Gilroy High School. The school resides in Northern California’s Santa Clara County, near the fighter’s home.

Cormier will also remain the head coach of his own Daniel Cormier-AKA Youth Wresting club, as well as maintain his programs in two local San Jose gyms, LUTE! Training Academy and Knoxx Gym.

The UFC light heavyweight champion will give away his stipend from his position at Gilroy High School to his talented team of assistant coaches. Speaking on the matter, Cormier stated:

“This opportunity is huge for me. Wrestling has been the foundation for everything I’ve done. I’m excited to coach a great team in Gilroy and excited to give back to the town that has accepted me and my family so openly.”

“Thank you to (principal) Dr. Marco Sanchez for giving me this opportunity and thanks to my wife Salina for allowing me to pile more onto an already full plate.”

Daniel Cormier is set to move up in weight to challenge reigning UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for his title at UFC 226. The highly anticipated live pay-per-view event will take place July 7 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
