Jake Shields Comments On The 8 Year Anniversary Of The Strikeforce Brawl

Eight years ago to today, April 17, one of the most historic brawls inside the cage of the Strikeforce promotion took place. Of course, this exchange went down after the sound of the fight ending bell.

Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, and Gilbert Melendez were taking the MMA world by storm long before they made their way to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Before heading into the octagon, the intrepid Skrap Pack was building mixed martial arts promotion Strikeforce up into a true spectacle.

Diaz and Shields went on dominant streaks as the promotion’s champions, taking out some of the toughest and most talented fighters around. However, one of the most memorable brawls involving the group took place following Jake Shields’ epic title defense.

Shields had just defeated Dan Henderson to defend his belt when heated rival Jason “Mayhem” Miller decided to storm the cage and take the microphone. The fighter demanded a rematch for the title against Shields, leading to a massive fracas inside the cage.

Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Jake Shields and many more became involved in the massive brawl, as the Skrap Pack rushed to the aid of their teammate. Now Jake Shields has decided to voice his thoughts on the historic moment now eight years removed from the incident.

Check out what Shields had to say below:

“After a hard fought 25 Min war with Dan Henderson Jason”mayhem” Miller jumped in and tried to steal my mic but luckily my crew had my back. Apparently this was 8 years ago today. @nickdiaz209 @natediaz209 @gilbertmelendez @tareqisback @erikbadapple”
