Khabib Thanks Max Holloway For Taking Fight, Then Starts The War Of Words Ahead Of UFC 223

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was left in a tough situation when Tony Ferguson pulled out of his main event title fight on just six days notice. With UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway having picked up the empty main event slot with the fight just days away, undefeated UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov has a few choice words for his new opponent.

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were originally locked down to fight for the undisputed lightweight title in the main event of UFC 223. However, the highly anticipated match up has since been cancelled.

Just days away from the fight, Tony Ferguson tore his LCL. This will make for the fourth fight between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov to be scheduled and ultimately cancelled.

In his place, Max Holloway will be moving up in weight to challenge Nurmagomedov in the night’s headliner. Taking to Instagram, the UFC has now offered an inside look into Nurmagomedov’s thoughts on the matter.

Speaking to the UFC, Nurmagomedov said:

“When we have press conference in January, Holloway talk about ‘I’m gona take this fight, if somebody injured.’ Now Tony’s out, he take this. Thank you, Holloway.

“Thank you, but Saturday night be ready. Saturday night, long night for you.”

UFC 223 goes down April 7. The live pay-per-view event will take place inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
