Conor Gets The Boot, EA UFC Cover Gets A New UFC Star

Video game publishing titan Electronic Arts quickly picked up the rights to make video games for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after fellow publisher THQ closed its doors. Consequently, fight fans have been most recently enjoying EA Sports UFC 3 from the organization.

Released on Feb. 2, EA Sports UFC 3 features the latest line-up of world class mixed martial artists within the world’s most famous MMA promotion. UFC megastar Conor McGregor initially graced the cover of the video game. However, it would appear that EA has now decided to take a different approach for their new edition of the intellectual product.

EA Sports UFC 3: Icon Edition was released on Tuesday, July 3, and features a new G.O.A.T. Career mode and Real Player Motion Tech that enables improved character movement. Beyond that, the edition features new MMA notables such as Tito Ortiz, Matt Serra, Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Cro Cop and fan favorite Kimbo Slice.

The new edition features a new cover. Rather than sticking with “Notorious,” EA has decided to feature record breaking UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for the game’s poster champ.
