Derrick Lewis Reacts To Winning What’s Being Called The Worst Fight In History

The highly anticipated fight card for UFC 226 took place over the weekend. During the exciting night of fights, the featured heavyweight co-main event match up quickly garnered serious controversy. Now the fight’s winner has come forward with a few words on the matter.

UFC 226 took place on Saturday, July 7, as part of International Fight Week. From within the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., the event featured a series of exciting match ups.

Co-headlining the night’s card, UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis and former title challenger Francis Ngannou faced off for division dominance. However, the fight did not go as many fans had expected.

The fight ultimately went the distance, with neither fighter having thrown many strikes or having dealt any significant damage. Longtime UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan was heavily critical of the performance from cage side, ultimately calling the fight the worst heavyweight match he has ever seen.

Having won the fight via unanimous decision, Derrick Lewis has come forward with a lengthy statement on his performance.

As reported by MMA Fighting’s Shaheen Al-Shatti, Derrick Lewis stated:

“No one wants to win a fight like that. My back was giving me problems before the fight and I didn’t have the mobility that I needed. The plan was to pressure him and put him against the cage, but I didn’t have the mobility to do that. I feel terrible.”

“It was a terrible performance. I know for sure I don’t deserve a title shot. I believe that hurt me more than it helped me, even though I got the win. It probably set me back about two fights.”

“I don’t deserve to call anyone out with a performance like that.”

“It was embarrassing. Sh*t, I wanted to go but my body wouldn’t let me.”
