Here’s What Happened When Yoel Romero Threw 12-6 Elbows On Brunson

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez suffered a tough loss over the weekend. The fighter faced off against Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated rematch on Saturday, ultimately suffering a TKO defeat in the second round.

Alvarez landed an illegal 12-to-6 downward elbow on his opponent earlier in the round, with referee Marc Goddard ultimately standing the two fighters up before continuing the bout. From there, Poirier almost immediately fired off a flurry of blows that brought an end to the fight.

That being said, the use of downward elbows ended in a different result for UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero back at UFC Fight Night 35. The “Soldier of God” faced off against Derek Brunson for the fight.

Romero got Brunson to the convas and began wailing down tough downward elbows to the ribs of his opponent. The fight ultimately ended in a third round TKO victory for Romero. Check it out within the video above.
