Miocic Fans Blaming This Controversial Eye Poke For First Round Knockout Loss

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic suffered a title ending loss over the weekend. Now fight fans are beginning to question an eye poke that occurred early in the fight.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted the highly anticipated fight card for UFC 226 on Saturday, July 7. Directly in the heat of International Fight Week, the world’s most famous mixed martial arts promotion visited the illustrious T-Mobile Arena to host the live pay-per-view event for fight fans around the world.

In the main event, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier moved up in weight to challenge heavyweight title holder Stipe Miocic for his title. Cormier made UFC history by knocking out Miocic, the UFC’s longest defending heavyweight champion in history, within the first round.

However, Miocic suffered an eye poke early in the first round that caused the fight to be brought to a momentary pause. After taking a moment to collect himself and recover, Miocic elected to continue fighting.
