New Footage Shows Ref Warn Alvarez To Stop Fingering Poirier’s Ear To Maintain Position

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier first faced off back at UFC 211. The fight was called a no contest after the former title holder struck Poirier in the head with illegal knees.

The two mixed martial artists went toe-to-toe once again in the main event of UFC on FOX 30 on Saturday, July 28. Alvarez landed an illegal 12-to-6 downward elbow the head of Poirier this time, causing referee Marc Goddard to bring a momentary halt to the contest.

Goddard stood the two fighters up before once again beginning the fight. This time around, Poirier earned a stunning TKO victory over his opponent.

Now journalist Kyle Volkman has come forward to report that Eddie Alvarez also illegally grabbed Dustin Poirier by the ear during the fight and was warned by referee Marc Goddard to release the illegal hold three times.

Check out photos of the incident and the original report down below:

“Not only did Eddie Alvarez grab the fence during Dustin’s first guillotine choke, grab the fence in mount, and throw a 12-6 elbow, but he also *grabbed Dustin by the inside of his ear* behind Dustin’s head to control his posture.

“You can hear the ref ‘fingers out of the ear’ 3x”
