With Woodley Off For UFC 230 Headliner, The UFC Is Down To Just Two Good Men

The highly anticipated fight card for UFC 230 is set to take place Nov. 3 from within the illustrious Madison Square Garden in New York. Despite the live pay-per-view event now drawing closer, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has yet to determine a headliner for the fight card.

UFC 230 is set to see Nate Diaz fight Dustin Poirier in the night’s co-headliner. Rumored to be targeted for the main event, Jon Jones was recently issued a brief suspension from USADA for his UFC 214 failed drug test that will see the fighter once again eligible to compete in Oct. 2018.

That being said, UFC President Dana White has since shot down the rumor. Meanwhile, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley was rumored to possible be taking on Colby Covington in the night’s event.

However, ESPN has since reported that Woodley is now due to go into surgery following an injury from his title fight against Darren Till. Consequently, the UFC is seemingly left with only a few options concerning a possible title fight main event for UFC 230.

Daniel Cormier is the reigning light heavyweight and heavyweight champion. As such, D.C. is currently targeting a heavyweight fight against Brock Lesnar. However, Lesnar is due to serve just under another six months of his suspension for a failed drug test from UFC 200.

Meanwhile, featherweight title holder Max Holloway is being targeted for a UFC 231 match up. Lightweight title holder Khabib Nurmagomedov is fighting Conor McGregor at UFC 229. Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum are currently coaching the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter and are expected to battle it out after the season’s end.

Consequently, bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and flyweight title holder Henry Cejudo are perhaps the best options for the promotion. The two fighters have voiced interests in taking each other on for a super-fight, but the UFC has yet to officially announce anything.
